How AWS Spot Instances Work
AWS operates a spot market for EC2 power that works similarly to derivative markets. You must place a bid in order to use spot instances. Your request is fulfilled and your instances begin if there is spare capacity and your bid price is higher than the current price. They’ll continue to operate as long as there’s capacity and your bid price is higher than the market price.
